OVTLIER - Joey Arena Tells Us All I Need
Joey Arena, vocalist and driving force behind the band OVTLIER is an interesting interview.
In a previous incarnation, Arena assembled the band Young Bloods into a rising force by first building an audience in their hometown of Rochester, New York before reaching a national audience with their 2010 debut album, “Blueprint to a Fire.” The “Rebirth” EP followed one year later. Although Young Bloods was gaining traction within the industry and building a significant fanbase, Arena wasn’t content. He dropped all that he had built in favor of a fresh start - OVTLIER. Not to diagnose someone who isn't me, but his personality, what he believes & the stuff he's talking about resonates so deeply. I'm late-life diagnosed Autistic & ADHD. I have heard other people speculate about this diagnosis for him, but have never heard confirmation of it. It's not truly important for any other reason to me than as an explanation for why I'm inexplicably drawn to certain things in people. He's fascinating to me, & his energy feels like home, so I think it's a pretty cool thing to observe that about famous creative people based off little hints of their presence you absorb through the internet. It's inspiring & helps you see yourself if you're experiencing (or have experienced) what he's talking about here, too. Remarkable human being. So much respect.

As a skater punk from the 80's, I would definitely pinpoint the skateboard magazines advertising the hell out of the Crimson Skull on shirts, stickers and skateboards as the main reason why The Misfits became so popular? There was a period when skulls or skeletons dominated the industry(thanks largely to the Bones Brigade) and to be honest, The Misfits logo was the coolest one of them all. One of those rare cases when the egg came before the chicken.
